The School of Business and Economics is pleased to announce that Dr. Zagros Madjd-Sadjadi, associate professor of economics and director of the Center for Economic Analysis at Winston-Salem State University, has been appointed chair of the Department of Economics and Finance in the School of Business and Economics effective January 2011.
Prior to joining Winston-Salem State, Madjd-Sadjadi taught at Golden Gate University, San Francisco State University and the University of the West Indies, Mona. He also was the first chief economist for the City and County of San Francisco, as well as the research manager of California’s Division of Labor Statistics and Research, which is the state equivalent of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Madjd-Sadjadi has published widely in leading economics and political science journals, is the editor-in-chief of the American Review of Political Economy, and serves on the Board of Directors of the International Confederation of Association for Pluralism in Economics. His research area includes the history of economic thought, institutional economics, the economics of crime, regional economics, and the economics of undocumented immigration.
Dr. Madjd-Sadjadi earned a Ph.D. in political economy and public policy from the University of Southern California in 1996 and was the 1994-95 Occidental Petroleum Fulbright Scholar to Canada.
