Finding a place to beat the heat this summer on campus was a little difficult as the temperature most days was above 90 degrees.

Where do I begin?

Oh how the mighty has fallen.
A great oak that had been a part of the WSSU landscape practically before there was a WSSU had begun to show signs of aging and was recently cut down. The tree was more than 100 years old, more than 10 feet wide, and weighed tons. The two-day operation to remove it revealed the true enormity of the tree’s size. To see more photos of the tree’s removal go to Flickr on WSSU’s Web site.

The stadium was packed with race fans.
Saturday, May 1, was a big night for the Winston-Salem State University Motorsport program at Bowman Gray Stadium. The Ram faithful came to cheer on Ryan Robertson who drives stockcars sporting the WSSU Motorsport brand. WSSU’s Motorsport program is a sponsor of Robertson Racing. The event gave members of the Ram family and their supporters an opportunity to learn more about the sport and provided exposure for the Motorsport program. To see more photos of the event check out the WSSU Flickr site on the WSSU Web site.

Benson puts everything into his performance at WSSU.
Appreciated as both a musician and performer by millions, George Benson has always had the dual role of expert improviser and vibrant entertainer. He delivered both roles during his recent rousing concert at WSSU. Benson’s performance was the culminating event of WSSU’s Lyceum Cultural Events series. To see more photos of Benson’s performance go to the Flickr site on the WSSU homepage.
Bolt, the Winston-Salem Dash baseball team mascot, really hammed it up when he joined the drumline of the Red Sea of Sound on opening night at the new BB&T Ballpark onĀ April 13. See more photos of the opening night experience on the WSSU Flickr site.

Dr. Joanette McClain, professor of nursing in the WSSU School of Health Sciences, could not resist the temptation of making a snowwoman with nearly a foot of snow on the ground.

Winston-Salem State University was like many locations along the East Coast (some still are) covered under snow just a few short weeks ago. This is what it looked like on campus when the snow began. When it was over, WSSU and much of the city were under more than five to eight inches of snow. The bitter cold kept a lot of the snow around for a while.
