Charlie Schoderbek, an instructor in the Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences and the pool manager at the Gaines Center, was recently recognized for his work training young people to become lifeguards.
He was awarded the Health and Safety Exceptional Service Award at the Red Cross’ 95th Annual Meeting and Recognition event based on his understanding of the importance of training lifeguards and passing that along to his students. It was noted that he ensures his lifeguards know what to do in any emergency. Additionally, he was recognized for being a positive role model for the teenagers and young adults he works with.
According to the Red Cross, Schoderbek lives by the phrase “the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.”
